Wine Helping with Weight Loss?
Not that we need another excuse to drink, but anytime an article comes out that says wine is good for you we get excited. Especially with our New Year’s resolutions starting to wain a recent article I read in Fitness magazine gave me an added boost and confidence in my wine drinking habit.
Apparently the new fitness trend is resveratrol weight loss pills. Resveratrol, an antioxidant food in red wine, grapes, and some berries, has recently been linked to increasing endurance, weight loss, and improving energy.
This is just the next in a list of benefits touting from red wine that have been increasingly popular over the last twenty years. Just to name a few:
1. Heart Disease: Resveratrol and alcohol help reduce bad cholestrol (LDL) and at the same time hypes up good cholestrol (HDL), therefore lowering heart disease rates among red wine drinkers (based on one glass a day).
2. Antioxidants: Resveratrol and some other compounds in red wine are antioxidant carriers that have anti-cancer properties.
3. Longer Life: In general, wine drinkers have a tendency to live longer than non-drinkers.
4. Laundry list of other benefits: Prevents ulcers, protects against the development of Alzheimer’s, helps ward off colds, reduces risk of stroke, helps build stronger bones, not to mention puts a smile on our face!
So instead of following the latest fitness trend and goobling up some new found weight loss pills, I’ll just enjoy my nightly glass of wine a little more.
